Every Monday at 1PM, Regent Street Cinema showcases films from the pre-code era, on a limited run until the end of the year. Special reduced price of £5 for our over 55 guests, with regular prices available for under 55s. Discover previously lost cinematic gems, created in a golden age before cinema censorship, when dames were mouthy and gangsters came in all guises. Beloved today for the enduringly feminist imagery of Dietrich rocking a tux and unabashedly looking straight down the lens at the viewer, at its heart, MOROCCO is an exotic love story of men & women trapped in the expectations of their respective societal roles. Dietrich is Amy Jolly, a cabaret star seeking a new life in Morocco, Gary Cooper is the Legionnaire Tom Brown, who signed up to active service for the same reason. War and “the other man” (a stark contrast to the usual “other woman” scenarios of the era) both stand in the way of love, creating the classic drama that so many today still know and love. Director: Josef Von Sternberg (BLONDE VENUS & CRIME AND PUNISHMENT) Starring: Marlene Dietrich, Gary Cooper & Adolf Menjou
