The Heavenly Films Night in association with BBC Arena

Wisconsin Death Trip is an Arena classic from 2000. Inspired by a book of the same name, film-maker James Marsh tells the haunting tale of murder, madness and suicide that took place behind the thin veil of respectability in small-town America at the end of the 19th century. Drawing on reports in the weekly newspaper, plus archive photographs and re-enactments of events, this film chronicles the tragedies that befell residents and neighbours of Black River Falls, Wisconsin.

The film won a Royal Television Society award and was BAFTA nominated. Director James Marsh went on to win an Oscar for Man On Wire and directed the Oscar nominated Theory of Everything.

“Wisconsin Death Trip is always lyrical, sometimes blackly farcical, and sometimes terrifying, as it reveals the romanticised American frontier’s true desperation.”  Jonathan Romney, The Guardian

Director James Marsh will introduce this rare screening of the film and answer questions afterwards.
