Fassbinder plays Jorgos – a Greek immigrant whose arrival to the neighbourhood gives the ennui-filled residents a chance to turn their rumour-mongering bile on someone new. Shot in just over a week it simmers with disgust and anger at the filmmaker’s own generation.

“an extraordinarily stylish film. It’s quite unlike anything else I’ve seen” – The New York Times

Beware of a Holy Whore

A film crew without a director, a star or enough money to shoot, kill time in their hotel. Bored and disgruntled, their conversations, love lives and petty grievances come together in a montage of vignettes. Purportedly a semi-autobiographical account of what went wrong with Whity, this is Fassbinder’s self-loathing manifested into film.

“This is how the cinema looked, in 1971, to the twenty-six-year-old director Rainer Werner Fassbinder, who already had ten feature films under his belt.” – New Yorker
