Special Preview of Fatherland with Katja Hoyer
<p class="MsoNormal">LRB Screen, the <i>London Review of Books</i>’ long-running film series, which explores the endlessly complicated relationship between literature and cinema, presents a special preview screening of Paweł Pawlikowski’s <i>Fatherland</i>, in partnership with MUBI.</p> <p class="MsoNormal">At the height of the Cold War, the writer Thomas Mann (Hanns Zischler) and his daughter – actress, writer, and rally driver – Erika (Sandra Hüller) embark on a road trip in a black Buick cruiser across a divided Germany in ruins, travelling from the Allied-occupied city of Frankfurt to Soviet-controlled Weimar. <i>Fatherland</i>, for which Pawlikowski was awarded Best Director at Cannes, completes his celebrated trilogy of historical films set in post-war Europe, after <i>Ida</i> in 2013 and <i>Cold War</i> in 2018. </p> <p class="MsoNormal">Joining regular host of LRB Screen, Gareth Evans, to introduce the film and discuss it afterwards will be the bestselling Anglo-German historian Katja Hoyer.
