Special Preview of Fatherland with Katja Hoyer

<p dir="auto" data-start="0" data-end="248" class="PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer">LRB Screen, the London Review of Books’ long-running film series, which explores the endlessly complicated relationship between literature and cinema, presents a special preview screening of Paweł Pawlikowski’s Fatherland, in partnership with MUBI.<span aria-hidden="true" class="PDq2pG_selectionAnchor"></span></p><p dir="auto" data-start="250" data-end="750">At the height of the Cold War, the writer Thomas Mann (Hanns Zischler) and his daughter – actress, writer, and rally driver – Erika (Sandra Hüller) embark on a road trip in a black Buick cruiser across a divided Germany in ruins, travelling from the Allied-occupied city of Frankfurt to Soviet-controlled Weimar. Fatherland, for which Pawlikowski was awarded Best Director at Cannes, completes his celebrated trilogy of historical films set in post-war Europe, after Ida in 2013 and Cold War in 2018.</p><p class="MsoNormal"> </p><p dir="auto" data-start="752" data-end="1169" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node="">Joining regular host of LRB Screen, Gareth Evans, to introduce the film and discuss it afterwards will be the bestselling Anglo-German historian Katja Hoyer.
