Closing Gala: Changes + Q&A with director David Ondříček and actor Jaroslav Plesl

David Ondříček,
director of the cult Prague film Loners, returns to the city that has
long inspired his work with Changes, a witty and bittersweet portrait of
lives in flux, featuring the music of UK-based Rhumba Club.

Seven people at
different stages of life cross paths in contemporary Prague. As relationships
begin, unravel and change, Martin (Jaroslav Plesl), Kamila, Dan, Romana, Karel,
Marek and Emma grapple with love, family, ambition and the messy gap between
the lives they imagined and the lives they are actually living. With an
excellent ensemble cast, Changes has a distinctly personal and lived-in
quality. Drawing on the lives of those around him and writing the roles
specifically for his actors, Ondříček combines observational humour, gentle
irony and unexpected twists with naturalistic dialogue and a strong musical
thread to create a warm, perceptive film about relationships, choices and the
possibility of starting again.
