For over 50 years, one of the world’s greatest athletes has never told his story. Until now.
Eddy Merckx is the greatest racing cyclist ever. He won everything and then won it all
over again a few times more in a rollercoaster career.
In the 1960s and 1970s, he dominated cycling. Even today, many of Eddy’s records have
never been beaten. And probably never will be.
But his ride to the top wasn’t easy. There was the controversial disqualification, the epic
comeback, the fatal crash, the agonising injuries and the iconic hour record that stood for
decades.
His rivals called him The Cannibal, an unfair nickname because he’s so much more.
525: The Unstoppable Eddy Merckx is a story about an incredible man who was only
interested in two things, his bike and his family.
During his career, Eddy won an astonishing 525 races - more than double the amount of
any other professional cyclist. His relentless winning made Eddy a hated person for some.
They couldn’t understand that he felt an obligation to the fans on the side of the road to
do his best every day. And Eddy’s best was usually better than anyone else.
Featuring unprecedented access to Eddy and his family and with never before seen
photos and interviews with Eddy, his wife Claudine and their two children, Sabrina and
Axel. Eddy hasn’t participated in a documentary since Jørgen Leth’s or Joel Santoni’s
seminal films of the 70s.
With Eddy’s help, we’ve assembled the greatest cast list of any cycling documentary ever,
including Sir Mark Cavendish, Sir Bradley Wiggins, Sir Paul Smith, Lotte Kopecky, Roger
de Vlaeminck, Johan Museeuw, Philippe Gilbert, Bernard Hinault, Sean Kelly, Jørgen Leth
(in his last ever interview) and Ernesto Colnago.
There’s never been a cyclist like Eddy Merckx. And there’s never been an official film
about his life. Until Now. PT1H31M18
