The Regent Street Cinema is the birthplace of British Cinema — in 1896 it became the very first place in Britain to show moving pictures when the Lumière brothers’ Cinématographe was presented to a paying audience. It is a landmark venue for the British film industry and provides a historic setting for your event in the heart of London’s West End.
Capacity and facilities
The unique 187-seat cinema is attached to the University of Westminster on London’s bustling Regent Street, a skip away from the Oxford Circus tube station. The cinema is one of the few in the country to show 16mm and 35mm film, as well as the latest in 4K digital film. It is also equipped with a fully working Compton Organ.
Bar Hire With Cinema
The Regent Street Cinema has a fully licensed bar with a wide selection of locally produced craft beers and fine wines, along with sweets and snacks. It has a beautiful ambience and is a great place to hold a reception before or after the screening. We can also provide bespoke catering.
Other venues for hire
The university also has other venues for hire alongside your cinema event, including elegant Edwardian teaching rooms, the boardroom and Fyvie Hall (lined with stained glass windows).
